John Powell, after a long career in management at a local printing company, faced a difficult decision. The company was sold, and while the new owners offered him a position, it came with a significant pay cut. During this period of uncertainty, John discussed his situation with his son, Kevin.
Kevin, who worked as a pinball and arcade technician, was also seeking a career change with greater growth potential. He had always been interested in HVAC but hadn't had the opportunity to pursue it. After careful consideration, both father and son decided to take a leap of faith: they would both enroll in the Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Chattanooga to study HVAC.
While in school, Kevin secured an internship with a local HVAC company, gaining valuable real-world experience. This experience, combined with their education, solidified their decision to start their own business. And so, Southern Comfort Heating & Air, LLC was born.
